During the initial phase of the nationwide lockdown in 2020, public transportation stopped, and hotels and restaurants closed. Thousands of daily wage laborers and patients' relatives stranded in Surat Civil Hospital campus had no source of meals.
To address this, the Chhanyado team pivoted our Bhojanshala operations to start the **Roti Seva during COVID-19 Lockdown**. We established a standardized, clean food-assembly process, preparing and packing fresh rotis, dry subjis, and khichdi boxes daily.
Working with local police and community volunteers, we distributed these packed meals directly to slums, railway stations, and hospital corridors. Our team prepared and delivered **up to 10,000 meals daily** during the peak of the lockdown.
