Roti Seva During COVID-19 Lockdown
In the early days of the COVID-19 lockdown, thousands of migrant workers were stranded in Surat—cut off from jobs, homes, and food. Chhanyado responded with a deeply human solution: Roti Seva.
Launched on 27th March 2020, this initiative mobilized 26,000+ households across Surat to make just 5 extra rotis a day for those in need. These rotis, collected from 1,500+ locations, were paired with sabzi and distributed as full meals to migrant workers.
With the help of 129 partner organizations, 1 lakh rotis were distributed daily. Chhanyado even provided flour, ghee, and utensils to families willing to cook but lacking resources.
This simple, collective act of kindness turned homes into community kitchens and helped restore hope for thousands—one meal at a time.
